2012-2018 Ram 1500 front differential repair

Post by dmatchett » Tue Feb 27, 2018 3:39 pm

Chrysler are experiencing major issues for their 2012-2018 Ram 1500 front differential right side axle splines being stripped (same issue they had with the early models) and they do not offer a replacement shaft, you must replace the complete differential and the demand is so high that some units are currently on 3-4 months back order. We have been working the past year on getting a fix and have succeeded. In the near future Transtar will be offering a repair kit to rectify this problem, they are currently in production. The main issue Chrysler has had since 2001 with these axles splines stripping is because
they are exposed to the elements. The kit will consist of the right side shaft (with needle bearing installed) and a boot and clamps to prevent foreign debris
from destroying the splines, allowing you to repair the unit instead of replacing it. This repair will save the customer from having repeat to replace the unit in the near future as this problem will only continue. As an added bonus the boot kit is available separately and also corrects the same issue on the early models.Part numbers are listed below and attach file shows what the differential consist of.

Axle shaft replacement kit # 722N695BK (shaft, needle bearing, boot and clamps)

Boot kit only # 722N695BT

Here is the Transtar updated info and parts diagram...

All Dodge Ram 1500 pickups from 2000-2018 have experience issues with the outer shaft
splines being stripped due to the fact they are left exposed allowing foreign material to
gather in this area and shortens the life of each axle. We now have found a supplier who
has designed a boot that prevents contamination gaining access to this area. We NOW
have stock on the boots.

Listed below are the applications they apply to and more info:

a) Part number 722N695BTA boot fits 2000-2011 Ram 1500/ Dakota/Durango/Aspen models and fits both sides,
so when selling part numbers 722A695B/722A695C we should encourage our customers to install this boot
which will dramatically increase the life span of the replacement axle.

b) Educating our customers also enables them to do preventive maintenance when it is brought to their attention.

c) This is an aftermarket design so it is not available from the dealer.

d) For Ram 1500 models from 2012-2018, the new ZF differential Chrysler switch to has been a disaster to date
with the same reoccurring issue and to make matters worse, they do not offer the right side axle which means
a complete differential is required to fix the problem, OEM is struggling to keep up with the high demand for units
and customers vehicles could be down for 3-4 months. We currently have this axle shaft in production and is 2-3
weeks away before we have stock.

e) The right side axle kit will consist of the shaft, 2 needle bearings, roller bearing, and two boots (right and left side
boots which are different).

f) Other parts of this differential not currently available from OEM are being sourced and will be sold on a need to
replace basis, and will be catalogued.

g) Attached to this email is the breakdown diagram for Ram 1500 2012-2018 and features our part numbers for reference.

h) The kit as seen in the diagram is part #722N695BK.

i) The kit will fit all the following OEM units:

68191738AA /68257420A/68257420AB /68257420AC/68257420AD/68257420AE
68192707AA/68083575AA/68257421AA/68257421AB/68257421AC/68257421AD
68191739AA/68083577AA/68257422AA/68257422AB/68257422AC/68257422AD
