3.9 5R55S/W Converter Vibration FIXED
Anyone know of an inherent issue with the 3.9(specifically) engine, 8 lug converter, using this trans having a severe vibration at 2000rpms? Our converter builder just told me Sonnax has a new front cover that eliminates the "adapter" plate/ring, allowing the converter to bolt directly to the flexplate....to eliminate a problem with vibrations for this engine ONLY. Sure would have been nice to know that BEFORE the 4th dang converter install....
Just curious. Nothing on the Sonnax website about it that I can find.
This is in a 2002 Thunderturd, btw.

I know there is an alignment tool for the adapter plate and Adapt a Case and others make it . I f you don't use it you could get vibrations , the tool centers off of the pilot

Not the issue. I have the alignment tool. There is supposed to be something specific to the 3.9 engine, with the 8 lug converter. Could be the converter guy is blowin smoke up my patootie, for all I know. ;>)

Our converter tech is not aware of any front cover . He said if you would like to speak with him give me your number and he will call . Larry is a good dude and has been doing this for years , he was also a trans builder in his past life .

Naw....he said it was the front cover itself. Allowed you to bolt the converter directly to the flexplate, instead of having to bolt the converter to the adapter plate, and then to the flexplate. I think the guy was just talking doo-doo, instead of owning up to their screwup on that last converter. This car dint have a vibration before we installed that converter. I think they got it welded crooked, and just don't wanna admit it.
