2003 Ram 3500 Diesel 48RE Cooling System Check Valve?

Post by carod » Tue Oct 24, 2017 3:11 pm

I just overhauled a 48RE in a 2003 Ram 3500 Diesel. I went to blow out the cooler lines
and they seemed to be plugged both ways. I did some research and some people are reccomending
removing the check valve. I would like to know what some of you guys in the industry are doing with
these trucks. Any suggested mods to the cooling system? The failure was the O/D planitary.
Thank in advance.

You can remove the check valve. When you do, install the Sonnax manual valve in the valve body for a converter charge in park. Also, check the cooler flow after you remove it to make sure its not plugged.

I did end up removing it, and this unit had a sonnax manual valve and pressure regulator.
It works good.
