Ford Ranger BW1354 T/C disengaging

Post by dmatchett » Tue Mar 01, 2016 6:26 pm

A very common problem with the 2004-2012 Ford Ranger's with the Borg Warner 1354 transfer cases when shifting in to high, customer will hear a loud bang and
will feel like something is coming up through the floor, this is an OEM design problem and Ford finally figured it out in 2014, we have known for years that the sleeve
the fork engages has been aligned improperly, by shimming it back .003" solves the problem. Ford has recently made available a new design sleeve to rectify this
problem and I will post the part number below. I recommend also replacing the tension spring as in most cases this problem has been going on for a while and why
risk the old spring that may have lost a lot of its tension. Over the years many shops have R & R this unit and could not find anything wrong with the internal parts.
99 % of the BW1354-GA units sold needed this simple fix.
