Jeep Wrangler trouble shifting the transfer case

Post by dmatchett » Thu Mar 03, 2016 3:20 pm

This is not unusual and is seldom an internal problem with the NP231 and NP241OR transfer cases,
the transfer case shifter bracket mounts to the underside of the floor, as time goes by the body
bushings will wear and sag or the vehicle may have a body lift installed, a simple adjustment of
the transfer case shift rod may be all that is needed to regain proper 4WD shifting. Simply reach
under the skid plate and loosen the rod adjustment nut where it attaches to the in-cab shift lever
with a 1/2" wrench, then slide the rod in or out as needed. Tighten the nut back down and test your
shifter.
